Almena is a city in Norton, County, Kansas that sits north of Prairie Dog Creek. As of the 2010 Census the city population was 408. The first post office in Almena was established in June 1872 and the city was incorporated on April 10, 1893. Northern Valley Schools, Unified School District 212, located in Almena is home to the Huskies.
History: The Almena Plaindealer, published by Ms. Helmi Moody, closed in 1990; it was the last newspaper in Kansas to be printed on a manual letterpress.
