Protection from Stalking and Protection from Abuse
A protection order is a court directive to stop a person from domestic violence, child abuse, assault, harassment, stalking, sexual assault, or human trafficking. There are 2 different types of Protection Orders: Protection from Abuse, or Protection from Stalking. There are certain qualifications that must be met in order for a person to qualify for a Protection Order. The full qualification descriptions are available on the Legal Forms website, or on the Protection Order Portal.
There is no fee to file a protection order case. However, the Judge can use personal discretion to rule that the fee be assessed later in the case, if found appropriate. Once the initial case documents are filed, the Judge will make a determination as to issuing a temporary order. Whether or not a temporary order is issued, the case will then be set for hearing, where parties can present evidence for the Judge to determine if a final order will be issued.
If you are wanting to file for a Protection Order by coming up to the office and filling out the forms, please plan on the process taking at least one hour.
