Information Regarding Tickets
Citations received in Norton County, Kansas from the Kansas Highway Patrol or the Norton County Sheriff's Department are filed with the Norton County District Court. At the time you receive the citation, the officer will provide you a copy of the ticket. The court's information will be available on the ticket. There will also be a designated spot on the ticket where the officer can indicate the fine amount owed to the court. However, not all violations have a set fine. If there is not a fine amount indicated on your ticket, you must contact the court before the court date listed on the ticket, or appear at the date and time set.
Court costs are assessed to each case that is filed with the court, in addition to the fine amount. The court cost amounts are set by statute and are to be paid whether an appearance in court is required or not. If you are charged with more than one violation on your ticket, there is only one set of court costs.
The appearance date provided on your ticket is the date your ticket is due to be paid by. You may contact the court if you need an extension of time to pay.
Applying for Diversion
A diversion is an agreement between a defendant and the County Attorney which acts as a continuance of court proceedings until the conclusion of the agreement. Contesting a Ticket
If you want to contest your ticket and plead not guilty, you can appear at your first appearance and advise the Judge of that, the matter will then be set for trial at a later date. You may also contact the court prior to your first appearance date and inquire about filing a written plea of not guilty, then the Judge would set a separate trial date.

Making a Payment
There are several methods of remitting payments to the District Court for traffic tickets or case fees. They are as follows:
1. Online: Payments can be made online at www.paykscourts.com. If you choose to use this method of payment, the website will direct you to select the county in which your case is filed or you received your citation. Payment online will result in a transaction fee charged by the credit card vendor, which will be added to whatever amount you are paying.
2. By Mail: You may mail either a check or a money order. Remember to include identifiers such as a name of the person the case is in regards to and a case number or citation number.
Payments can be mailed to: Centralized Court Payment Center PO Box 750200 Topeka, Kansas 66675-0200
3. In Person: You may bring payment into the office of the Clerk of the District Court during normal business hours. We accept exact cash, check, money order, or card payments. Please be aware that when paying with a card in the office, there will be a transaction fee added to the amount being paid.
4. After Hours Drop Box: If you are unable to make it into the office during regular office hours, you can place your payment in an envelope in the District Court Drop Box on the West side of the Courthouse. Be sure to include a case number and/or defendant name so the District Court Office is able to identify where to apply the money to.
Cases Referred to the Collection Agency
If a case has an outstanding balance that is not paid within the time allotted by the court, the case may be referred to a collection agency. The agency adds a fee for their collection work and is then responsible for collecting the outstanding balance due. Once a case has been sent to Collections, payments in regards to that case can no longer be accepted by the Clerk's in the District Court Office. All payments must then be remitted directly to the Collection Agency.
At this time, Norton County uses the below listed agency for Collections:
