The Register of Deeds, an elected position, is responsible for recording all transactions relating to real estate in Norton County. These documents include deeds, mortgages, oil and gas leases, easements, surveys, water rights and plat additions to all cities in the county. Our office also files financing statements on personal property under the uniform commercial code, federal and state tax liens, mechanics liens on work done on vehicles and equipment, corporation papers, powers of attorneys and military discharge records. The records are public record except for Real Estate Sales Validation Questionnaires and military discharge records which is only to authorized persons. To receive a copy of Military Discharge records, a form must be filled out and sent back to us. (See forms). Our records are not available online.
Our mission is to serve the public in a friendly and timely manner. Also, to record and preserve the records of Norton County for future generations.
All records in this office are open to the public with the exception of the Kansas Real Estate Sales Validation Questionnaires (SVQ) and military discharges, closed by State statute. Unlawful Use of Names Derived from Public Records: K.S.A. 45-230 states in part, (a) No person shall knowingly sell, give or receive, for the purpose of selling or offering for sale any property or service to person listed therein, any list of names and addresses contained in or derived from public records.
